Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 June 2026
Newsdeck ("we", "us") operates newsdeck.live, a news aggregation and summarisation service. This policy explains what we collect and why. We aim to collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Account details — your email address and display name. If you register with a password it is stored only as a salted hash; we never store it in plain text. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name and email from that provider.
- Activity — the topics you follow, articles you like or react to, comments you post, links you click, and the terms in your Tracking Deck. This is used to personalise your deck and improve our summarisation.
- Cookies — an essential session cookie to keep you signed in, a preference cookie for your light/dark theme, and a cookie storing your Tracking Deck terms. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
- Technical data — standard server and CDN logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) used for security and to keep the service running.
How we use it
To provide and personalise the service, secure it against abuse, send you a one-time email to verify your address, and improve how we select and summarise stories. We do not sell your personal data.
Who we share it with
- Cloudflare — provides our CDN, TLS and security layer.
- Our email provider — delivers the verification email only.
- Google / Facebook — only if you choose to sign in with them.
News content is summarised from third-party publishers; each card links to the original source, which has its own privacy practices we do not control.
Retention
Article cards are automatically deleted after about 30 days; only aggregate, anonymous engagement totals are retained for the public "fun stats". Your account data is kept until you ask us to delete it.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable period. To delete your account and all associated data, see our data deletion instructions.
